James Faust

James Faust occupies an unusual position within the fourth generation. He was raised around wealth, history, expectations, and tradition, in a household where continuity was treated as an obligation rather than a preference.

Unlike relatives primarily interested in preserving inherited institutions, James became intensely interested in building organisations of his own. He respects the Faust legacy but does not want his identity to depend entirely upon inheritance.

His fundamental ambition is to create something large enough to stand beside the institutions created by earlier generations rather than inside them.

The tension is philosophical rather than personal. To older Fausts, patience represents wisdom. To James, excessive patience can resemble complacency.
